6. Conservation of Colonial Era Globe
History has it ways to tell you stories and these stories are not limited to just books. Paintings, maps, sculptures and many such objects speak about history. RATH was fortunate to come in contact with one such rare object that took us across the world during the Colonial period. The globe that our team members worked on was part of the collection of Maharaja Lakshmishwar Public Library, Darbhanga. It mentioned the old trade routes across lands and seas. However, with age, the globe and its markings were fading and due to external depositions, the readings became tough to interpret. RATH conserved the globe by cleaning the previous coating that had darkened over time, consolidated the markings and a preventive coating was applied. Additionally, concise labelling of the globe was done for convenience of the visitors.
