The essence of Indian culture and diversity is apparent in its people’s methods of worshipping to their deities. Shiva, the destroyer and his many incarnations are worshipped in almost every household in every region. The most common mode of revering Shiva is worship of Shivaling and adorning it with milk, flowers and water. Members of RATH had an opportunity to visit Mukteshwarnath Temple, Madhubani to offer guidelines on preventive conservation of the Shivaling at the temple. The major deterioration was salt deposition and accumulation on the surface due to regular pouring of water. Upon deliberate discussions with the temple authority, RATH provided them with preventive treatment of the shivaling so as to prolong its life.
